Environmental Events

  1. Photovoltaic (PV) Site Analysis and Systems Sizing

    June 28, 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM @ Environmental Innovation Center

    Pete Shoemaker will introduce participants to tools available for solar site analysis through hands-on demonstrations, field exercises, and project examples.* After participants, have developed a strong foundation in solar site analysis, the course will focus on the steps involved in sizing a grid-connected PV system. Participants will attempt to answer the three critical questions of every potential PV project: (1) How large a system (kW capacity) is needed to meet the owner's electricity production goals? (2) Can the owner afford it? (3) Is there enough space on-site to accommodate the proposed system? Since the course will include calculations, please bring pencils, erasers, and a calculator. Weather permitting, participants will be outside for parts of the day, consider bringing sunglasses and a hat. *PEC's Basics of PV for Grid-Tied Applications class is a prerequisite for this class.

    June 26, 10:00 AM @ Vasona Lake County Park: (Playground Parking Lot)

    Learn the possible consequences of using fireworks. This event will call attention to the risks of using fireworks in San Jose and Santa Clara County. Independence Day celebrations nationwide result in over 10,000 injuries annually. The associated risks of using fireworks include devastating burns, injuries, fires, and significant impacts to family pets. Hospitals, fire departments, law enforcement, and other emergency services agencies encourage residents to celebrate safely by attending outdoor public displays conducted by trained professionals throughout Santa Clara County. Please join us at this event to hear more about the impacts of using fireworks.

  1. Park Clean-Up: Kirk Park (Cambrian Area)

    Double Your Success! Join in the park clean-up where you will not only make a big difference in the local park, you will get a great workout too! Kirk Park needs some help with trimming the bushes, deadheading the rose bushes, removing the weeds and snipping the suckers. We will teach all the skills needed to help keep the park landscaping looking manicured and detailed! ***Please wear closed-toe shoes and bring your own filled water bottle. ***A hat and sunscreen are recommended. ***All supplies will be provided! ***No pre-registration necessary--simply show up and help us clean up the park!
